Merci! Gracias! Danke! Arigato! Shokran! Xie xie! Sukria! Toda! Gazie! Obrigado! Spasibo!
Udacians, you’ve done it again. You’ve totally blown us away with your strong support of our mission to broaden access to education. Since our first post thanking you for translating our courses into over 63 languages, you’ve unleashed your linguistic prowess and come out in full force to achieve some remarkable feats of translation.
Since we first encouraged you to join Amara to start translating, we’ve seen a jump in folks registering to translate – we’ve welcomed 46 new translators to the Udacity team and now have 707 translators (and counting)! That’s an 11% increase in translators in less than one month – impressive, guys!
We’ve also seen a whopping 18% increase in translations across the site. This means that 1,135 more lessons are available in new languages for non-English-speaking students.
If you’re interested in joining us, consider starting with these classes, which are close to be fully translated:
- Intro to Algorithms is almost complete in Hindi.
- HTML5 Game Development is almost complete in Hindi.
- AI for Robotics is almost complete in Spanish.
- Intro to CS is almost complete in both traditional and simplified Chinese.
We’d like to shout out to all of our top translators, and we’ll kick it off this week by introducing Lucilia, an associate professor at the Computer Science Department of the Universidade Federal de Ouro Preto in Brazil.
Lucilia is the powerhouse behind the Portuguese subtitles for Programming Languages, and also translates for the AI class and Introduction to Computer Science. She is passionate about programming, and writes, “I love, in particular, functional programming languages, type systems and program static analysis.” Lucilia confesses she sometimes chooses translating courses over sleeping, to the point where she once looked for books inside her refrigerator after a long session of translating!
Lucilia, and Udacity translators, thanks for all that you do, and rock on! Thanks to you, it’s only a matter of time until all of our courses are fully translated! We’ve already started sending out t-shirts, and we’re very excited to feature more translators here on the blog. Stay tuned for more updates, and in the meantime, be sure to join our translation team on Amara!
