Last week, we launched the Intro to Machine Learning with TensorFlow Nanodegree program. After this launch, our learners can now choose between PyTorch and TensorFlow frameworks of Deep Learning.
In order to understand the industry uptake of this emerging technology, we connected with some of our alumni of the Intro to Machine Learning with PyTorch Nanodegree program. Here’s what they said about the impact of the Nanodegree program on their lives.
After graduating from the Machine Learning Nanodegree program, I approached my boss and said I was interested in taking on projects that involved machine learning. I sent her a list of the courses I’d taken in the Nanodegree program, as well as some other data science courses. I think she was impressed with my eagerness and, combined with my previous experience, it didn’t take much convincing. I already had knowledge of the pharmaceutical domain, software development skills, and a familiarity with data. Then the Nanodegree program meant I added critical machine learning skills to my toolset. So after being a Software Developer for 20 years, I became a Data Scientist. – Antal Berenyi
I started applying for jobs after graduating from the Nanodegree program and was soon contacted by a medical device company. I wasn’t sure if I had the necessary experience, but the company seemed to really value my skills; prior experience wasn’t a dealbreaker for them. I went through a series of interviews, impressed them with the skills I’d built, and they offered me a full-time role. The offer was really good, I liked the team I interviewed with, and the job sounded great! But I was really torn about what to do—whether I should join an established company or launch my own venture. I finally decided that building my own startup, starting from scratch, would be an incredibly constructive challenge, no matter what the ultimate outcome. – Jeremy Jordan
I was very curious about machine learning. I also tried several programs featured by other companies, then one of my seniors in college recommended Udacity’s Nanodegree program. I enrolled in the course and worked hard to learn good concepts. The short video lectures and hands-on projects helped me to master machine learning concepts. It was actually after attempting those projects and the mentor feedback that I was able to perform well in online coding rounds. It also helped me to understand the ongoing research quite well. Now I guess because of this program I can code and understand Machine Learning Algorithms properly and the best part is I can even revise all the concepts on the go. I landed up in my dream internship abroad in Taipei and I am doing well there, all thanks to Udacity. – Ekansh Gaykwad
Udacity helped me organize and systematize my skills. My capstone project won an award in a Kaggle challenge and soon after that I landed a tech lead job in machine learning at a consultancy firm in Oslo. Tensorflow seems to be moving in the right direction with regards to the newest ML paradigm. The recent introduction of TF Transforms makes it an excellent way to organize and re-use ML code from development to production. In fact, one of the cool things about Udacity is that quick level of reaction to the industry trends. TensorFlow coupled with cloud computing seems to be becoming a very powerful combination. – Ruslan Kozhuharov
